Dear Friends,

To further promote understanding of what can be done, a brief explanation is given below concerning prolotherapy. Please check www.gracelifemedical.comwww.prolotherapy.com or www.getprolo.com for further research.

The appropriate patient shall have chronic pain for at least 3 months, whether continuous or recurrent in nature.

Most headaches, especially migraine headaches, chronic neck pain, low back pain, and sciatica are good candidates for treatment. Shoulder and scapular pain are also treatable. Carpal tunnel syndrome (wrist pain) and knee and ankle pain are also treatable but may require more visits.

Therefore, I would encourage people with chronic headache, neck and low back pain, sciatica to receive treatments; the results on these patients are more predictable and faster.

One third of patients receiving therapy will improve significantly in one visit. In an average case, 4-5 visits would be more optimal to also improve function.

The therapy consists of injecting a natural substance made from corn and fish oil, plus herbal compounds, and local anesthetics. After treating 21,000 patients, there have been no significant long term side effects. For those having injections in the head and neck, patients are asked not to eat a full meal prior to injections, it is likely that there will be some dizziness post injection, also patients are advised not to drive or operate heavy machinery.

Local pain can last about three to seven days after injection. Please do not take any steroids, aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, or medications that relieve pain prior to coming. The exceptions are Ultram, Tylenol, codeine, valium or Vicodin; they are OK to take before and after treatment.

There will be some swelling at the area of injection, and it is best not to work the next day. There is no limit to motion or exercise.

To repeat and summarize:

  1. Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, Naprosyn, or steroids prior to or after injections.

  1. Do not eat too much before injections.

  1. Try to rest the next day after injections. However, there is no limit to activity or exercise, and exercise is actually encouraged as much as one can tolerate.

  1. Find a driver, especially for those having head and neck injections.

  1. Tylenol, Codeine, valium, Vicodin, or Ultram are OK to take for pain.

  1. Eat 2 eggs a day to provide collagen and protein.

  1. An average person takes 3-4 sessions to complete, but 1-2 sessions may help alleviate a lot of pain in 50% or more of the patients. Those that do not improve a lot need not be discouraged; we can return for more follow up as He wills.

  1. Swimming is a very good exercise for head, neck, and back pain.

  1. Temporary itching on the skin can last a few weeks after injections, no treatment is necessary.

Sincerely,

Dr Wong
